What’s Wrong with Altar Girls?

The use of altar girls during the liturgy in modern times is not a matter of giving girls and boys equal opportunity, but is a theological error that undermines the proper worship of God, giving girls right that Jesus Himself did not give them and leading to a false expectation about a possible call to the priesthood.

  1. Hello,
What is wrong with girls being alter servers? Not sure there there is anything wrong with girls serving; just as there is nothing wrong for woman to be serving. The history of woman in Christianity is so powerfully important to Jesus ministry of “The Way” in His day as it is today. Woman (coming from a man writing this) have always been the workhorse and backbone on which Jesus and the church depends on for the very continuation of The Way, without which the church of today would no doubt be in a worse spiritual situation than it is today.

In the time of Jesus, even more so than today, woman outside of the home were not seen, spoken or listen to. The mere understanding of the times tells volumes about amazing that it is how women were even acknowledged in scriptures; but only because of their undeniable importance to the success of Gods plans for us.

One needs to look no further than John: “4.39 Many Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.”” about Saint Photina of Samaria ( the woman at the well ), to understand the importance of woman in Jesus overall plan for His choosing to walk amongst us.

One final thought. Maybe if we placed the same emphasis as we do on woman caring for our children and family’s as we want for our church, rather than depending on Apostolic Tradition, maybe our church would be closer to The Way in which Jesus both spoke and showed us how He wants us to be.

O Holy Spirit, not ours, but Thy Will be done.

God bless you and your service to God

    Sincerely

    John Paul
