During Passiontide, the last two weeks of Lent, we cover the statues and crucifixes in churches and omit the Glory Be in the Mass to remind us of the approaching Death of Christ and to “hide God” in a sense so that we might be drawn to the Passion of Christ and feel sadness and loneliness and unite them to the feelings of Jesus in reparation for our sins.
